About Me

Sam is a composer and orchestrator based in London, England. He recently graduated with distinction from the Composition for the Screen masters course at the Royal College of Music, with tuition from Enrica Sciandrone and Howard Davidson. He has worked on a number of projects ranging from musicals to animation, and with students from the London Film School, Goldsmiths, the Royal College of Art and Central St. Martin’s School of Art.

Sam has recently worked on Call The Midwife and the ITV movie Peter & Wendy as assistant to Maurizio Malagnini, and orchestrator Jehan Stefan. He is also assistant to orchestrator Anthony Weeden, and has worked on projects including Sicario, which earned Johann Johannsson his second Oscar nomination for Best Original Score.

Before attending the RCM, Sam graduated from the University of Sheffield with 1st Class Honours and went on to complete a Masters in Composition and Performance. During this time his Euphonium Concerto received its premier with soloist Matt Ingram and the Sheffield University Symphony Orchestra. Sam also received First Prize in the 2010 Sheffield Cathedral Composers’ Competition for his anthem God Be Merciful, and his piece for string orchestra, Overture to Awaking, was premiered by Hallam Sinfonia, conducted by Natalia Luis-Bassa.

Sam is also looking forward to conducting the London-based Portobello Orchestra in the Autumn.
